Here are the answers to some of our moralers' frequently asked questions. If you have a question that isn't listed on here, please comment on this post or email us at mri.dm09@gmail.com!
What will I do when I'm there?
You, the moraler, will be the dancer's best friend. You'll be the energetic and friendly face that every dancer needs to get through his or her 26 hours of dancing! You'll keep the dancers' spirits up and dance the day and night away with them!
What should I bring? Can I bring stuff for my dancer friends?
First, be sure to bring $25 to sign up to morale if you haven't signed up early online (for the 9 p.m. - 12 a.m. and 12 a.m. - 3 a.m. shifts, there is NO online registration; entrance will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis).
Also, make sure to bring treats, notes of encouragement... anything you think will keep your dancer friends happy and energized on the dance floor! You may want to bring a camera to capture all the memories you'll be making! Most importantly, bring plenty of ENERGY and get ready to dance the night away!!
Should I bring food?
You can bring food to the event. If you're planning on staying a while (we hope you do!), its' probably a good idea to bring food. Meals will be provided for the dancers, but unfortunately, we can't provide food for moralers.
Should I bring water?
You don't need to bring water - there will be plenty of huge coolers filled with water to keep everyone hydrated.
Can I bring alcohol?
No. Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited at Dance Marathon.
How long can I stay?
Once you enter Dance Marathon, you can stay as long as you'd like. We encourage moralers to stay longer than their 3-hour shifts to support the dancers and dance the night away! However, we have a NO RE-ENTRY POLICY. When you leave the event, you will not be allowed to enter again without signing up to morale again (and paying $25).
Can I come and go?
We have a NO RE-ENTRY POLICY. You may stay as long as you want to, but you cannot leave and come back. If you leave and wish to come back later, you'll have to sign up to morale again (and pay $25) - provided that there is still space in Ackerman Grand Ballroom.
How much does it cost?
Signing up as a moraler costs $25, whether you pay beforehand online (at www.dancemarathon.ucla.edu - click "Get Involved") or at the door.
What does my money go towards?
Your $25 goes towards the Dance Marathon shirt you will receive at the event and fundraising for pediatric AIDS!
Who does Dance Marathon benefit?
Dance Marathon benefits the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation - the largest pediatric AIDS foundation in the United States - and Project Kindle and One Heartland, two free summer camp programs that provide HIV-affected children with the experience of a lifetime. For more information on our beneficiaries, check out our website at www.dancemarathon.ucla.edu.
What should I wear? Does Dance Marathon have a theme?
Dance Marathon is split into 8 three-hour shifts (and 2 one-hour shifts at the beginning and end of the event), and each shift has its own theme. You know what that means... costumes!! Get in the spirit and go wild with your costumes. Dress up for the shift you're coming for... and bring costumes for each shift as long as you're going to stay!
Here's a brief description of each shift theme so you can get those creative costume juices flowing!
I Heart UCLA (11-12 p.m.)
Pirates (12-3 p.m.)
Toga, Toga, Toga (3-6 p.m.)
Wild Wild Westwood (6-9 p.m.)
What's Your Major? (9-12 a.m.)
Creatures of the Night (12-3 a.m.)
Carnival (3-6 a.m.)
Under the Sea (6-9 a.m.)
Bruin Spirit (9-12 p.m.)
Power Hour (12-1 p.m.)
Will I get to see my friends who are dancing?
Yes! You will be there to support them - you'll spend your time at Dance Marathon dancing with your friends and keeping them energized throughout the event!
Where do I go at my scheduled shift time?
Come to A-Level Ackerman Union, near Tsunami and the ATMs. You'll check in here, and we'll direct you from there.
Do I need to get there early?
Please arrive at your scheduled time - or at the time of the shift you're hoping to morale for.
Will I be outdoors or indoors? Should I bring a jacket?
You will be indoors - the event is held in Ackerman Grand Ballroom - but you may want to bring layered clothing in case you get hot or cold during the event. You'll have a designated area to put your belongings while you're out on the dance floor.
